Living & Studying in NZ

You can choose the type of accommodations you would prefer while you are in New Zealand for study.

  • Homestay with a New Zealand family
For a small fee, PacTec will organise your homestay accommodations for you before you arrive in New Zealand. You’ll have the option of 2 or 3 meals a day, a private or a shared room, and a private bathroom. PacTec assesses all homestay providers in an effort to make sure the environment there is safe and comfortable for students. This option is suitable for younger students, but we recommend homestays for all PacTec students, especially those wanting extra English language practice outside of the classroom. You can expect to pay around NZD$180 a week to live with a homestay family.

  • Hostel or public dorms
These are situated in Auckland’s suburbs and are competitively priced for students.

  • Studio and shared apartments / flats
PacTec can help you to find apartments or flats suitable for long and short-term students. To rent a room in a house or a flat, you should expect to spend a minimum of around NZD$120 a week.

Other accommodation options include boarding establishments and motels, hostels or backpackers’ inns.

Please note that if you are under 18 years of age, you will only be allowed to stay with a Homestay, with your parents, or with a relative designated by your parents.

If you are over the age of 18 and would like to find your own accommodations, we can support you by suggesting places you can try. We will let you know if we have run a formal assessment of the accommodation and what the results of that assessment were.
